Valentine

I haven't posted since last July, but I couldn't let a Valentine's Day go by without making a card for my dear friend, Thelma. We exchange every year and she sends her cards to Loveland, Colorado for a special postmark.

This year's card was made using a scrap of paper stash (Memoranda) as a background for a fussy-cut of roses from a Stampington Somerset Studio magazine freebe. I stenciled on some texture paste, added some gold Stickles, framed it with fabric and used machine stitching to attach it to the card. The ticket text was typewritten and came from an old book of poetry.

No. 10 for Christmas, 2022

Today, I'm sharing a nature-themed Christmas tag made with a fussy-cut bird from a Graphic 45 paper collection, mounted inside a handmade box lined with Christmas/Noel collage paper, and a piece of Tim Holtz Christmas ephemera.

The background was embossed with a Texture Fade, there's lots of Stickles, a bit of gold paint, a tiny scrap of muslin and a vintage button. I just don't do bows well so to balance the top I created a tiny paper scroll.

As always, I hope this post finds you well and happy and I appreciate your visit.

Until next time, take care.

No. 42

Recycle was the challenge over at Simon so I used the inside of a vintage portrait folder for a support, a layer of peeled cardboard, distress-stained parchment paper, a scrap of printed tissue paper, an altered metallic paper frame and one big, beautiful luna moth (Argema mittrei).

The moth image really inspired me (wouldn't it make a great stamp?) and it was printed, cut-out then mounted on a thick piece of cardboard and the edges were painted black.

I used a scrap of vintage lace and, while I can't explain it, I am always compelled to add dimensional dots which you'll see along one of the paper borders (Nuvo vintage drops). The text is a Clipping Sticker.

As always, I hope this post finds you well and happy and I appreciate your visit.

Until next time, take care.

Find Away

I like challenge blogs and my favorite is the Simon Says Stamp's Monday Challenge Blog. And I really, really like challenge blogs when the theme is to create a tag or something with a tag attached.

As I am rather fond of the format :) for this week's Tag It challenge, I used both suggestions and made a tag with tags.

Tim's tiny stamps, washi, tissue wrap, remnant rubs, found relatives and fabric bits were used to create my, dare I say? unconventional masterpiece. No matter what you might think of this tag--you gotta love that faucet (so much detail in such a tiny stamp)!

12 Tags for Christmas 2017 - Wonderful Time

We had a toboggan when I was a kid. Not the safest kind of sled but ours could handle about six passengers at a time which made it easy to steer as long as everyone leaned the right way in unison.

This little miss was certainly safe when this vintage photo (Graphic 45 Frosted) was taken. It was nicely staged with a painted background and fashionable clothing (I wonder if it may have been done for an advertisement or greeting card).

She is the focal point for tag five of my 12 for Christmas and was placed on top of a background of embossed snowflakes tinted with Distress Oxide (Faded Jeans) and framed with tissue paper and a cut-out stamp border.

Embellishments include scraps from a Tim Holtz Mixed Media die and lots of Stickles. The ribbon is a scrap of Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements fabric

Condo

I've had trouble creating lately. I've shown up for the work but the results just weren't satisfactory. Hopefully, I've learned from my mistakes and the worst is over. It really has thrown me for a loop and even the purchase of a few new supplies didn't help!

So a thank-you is due to Maura Hibbits, who developed a tic-tac-toe board for this week's Monday challenge blog at Simon Says Stamp. Her clever idea allowed me to finally complete something and I opted to go all-in, using every element.

My tag is a layer of washi tape, corrugated cardboard stenciled with paste, birds stamped on fabric, sprayed and stained with blue and green distress inks and a light wash of gesso, some sequins, gold threaded ribbon and gel pen doodled dots.

I imagine it looks like an abstract bird condominium, hence the title of my blog post.

No. 526713

I'm a Guest Designer for April at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and if this is your first visit here--hello and welcome!

This week's challenge is to use a Butterfly and my idea for this tag started with one I found in my Wallflower Vellum paper stash.

I cut it out and cropped it to fit inside an Idea-ology Journaling Ticket stamped with some background text (Ledger Script) using archival ink (Ranger Potting Soil).

I built a box for it by scoring 1/4" from the edges of a rectangular piece of heavyweight cardstock then folding up the sides and securing the corners.

The box was lined with a vintage dictionary page and I attached the ticket using my sewing machine. A Small Talk sticker was tinted with Antique Linen Distress ink and placed on top.

The stitching made me think of using a textile background so, after tinting the tag edges with Walnut Stain Distress ink, I cut a piece of fabric (Eclectic Elements) and stitched it to my tag.

In case you're wondering, sometimes I peel off the reinforcement paper around the tag's hole punch before adding background papers, etc., then reapply it (which is what I've done here).

After a few practice runs on some scrap fabric, I stamped the tiny butterflies on a string (Prima Noble Darling) using, of all things, ink from a Fude Ball pen. I needed a real juicy application to get a good image on the fabric and this pigment ink pen did the trick.

To create more visual interest, I intentionally offset the placement of my tag elements including the Lace Trimmings along the bottom edge of the box.

I stitched on a button (that matched the coloring of the vellum butterfly) as well as some string tinted with Black Soot Distress Ink to help draw the viewer's eye up and over the box and match the playfulness of the tiny butterflies.
